Sometimes it takes a while for a song or an artist to really hit the right nerve with me. Maybe it has to do with the season, or my state of mind, or the position of Mercury in relation to Earth; I don’t pretend to understand the rules. But in any case the universe keeps giving me chances to connect with Spellling and the other night I finally, properly did.

‘Under The Sun’ is haunting and danceable, which are two adjectives that don’t often get to be claimed by a single song. Its movements are shimmering in a moonlit sort of way. Its bleeps and bloops might be playing in the arrival of a UFO while the swelling synths are off telling their own private love story, and somewhere there is a bass line gently trying to get even the most stubborn wallflowers to sway in time.

I hope this music makes its way to you on a day when you can lose yourself in the world it occupies, a little familiar and a little strange at the same time. It’ll grab you if you let it, and take you into a solar system where the planets are disco balls and clusters of lasers beaming from a spooky orb.
