There is a video somewhere, probably, that shows two people falling in love, or strangers becoming friends, or kids starting their first band. Something over months or years even, captured in starts and stops, all the sugared moments playing out in real time: a small smile, half of a well-executed solo, “I love you” practiced in front of a mirror. 

Of course no one would have the patience to watch the whole thing, and the moments lose their significance sandwiched in between such long stretches of nothingness. The trick is to take something momentous and important and speed it up to fit the length of a pop song. Dizzying and huge and very small at the same time.
